ALIGNMENT ~~ Having an arch
Alignment of the lower body starts with an examination of the Arches of the feet. Below are several examples of a before and after view of the changes that will effect the structural dynamic of the body. As an individual works with grooving in their alignment; by walking around with a feeling of having an arch as they walk around, the changes will take hold because to our body can feel the obvious sense that having an arch in place makes.
The first set of pictures is
from a session given to and 18 year old girl on 1-17-2010. The before and after
pictures illustrate how the use of alignment
can help the
structure of the body change within a session. This is a very fast and natural
verses the traditional and costly medical treatment of fallen arches.
<--
On the left we can see the pronation of the arches and the turn in of the ankles. This position affects how the knees align as well as the hips and lower back.
-->
On the right we see the difference with the arches being raised and the ankles being turned open. This happened within a 1/2 hour of instruction.
By first pointing out to the student, while they are standing, the difference of how the position of standing feels, both as they are standing right now, and how this feels with an idea of having an arch and turning the ankles open. Of course, the knees need to be relaxed or soft, rather than being locked. Locked knees are the general habit of someone who has a rotation to the inside, pronation. The degree of turn-in can vary with every one yet, once pointed out, people can feel the difference of their current standing verses standing while feeling what is being indicated by using alignment principles. Walking with ones arches up & open then becomes the next instruction.
Pronation

These are pictures taken of an 11 year old boy. Viewing the picture on the left, <--
we can see an obvious collapsing of the arches and an inwardly turn of the ankles. With the result of some guidance, we can see the difference some pointing out instruction can make in a persons structural well-being.
this change of the legs and ankles and feet was accomplished in about 25 minutes with 15 minutes doing massage and the other 10 minutes working on walking with an arch in place feeling the outside of the feet hitting the ground. I find in young people this corrects very fast.
~~~~~
The pictures below are of the girl who's pictures of her feet are of the first two pictures above.
The picture on the left was taken before our 1 hour Session.
<--
The picture on the right was taken at the end of the session.
-->
From the before and after pictures of a one hour session we can see structural changes brought about by examining standing, walking, sitting and laying down while working with the ABC's of alignment. As she works with the alignment sessions on her own, we will see a continued opening and relaxing of muscle groups. The upper back muscles will eventually relax as she gains insight while working on her own.
In working with the breathing process to expand the rib cage up and open for a period of time, the muscles of the upper body are stretched for a period of time. When the breathing is relaxed; some length of the muscles of the upper body are restored. Since the pointing out instructions are natural we can feel the grace & dignity provided by this understanding.
